Now I know what you’re thinking this is going to be a big spew about how great and fantastic is it to be a hairdresser with all the wonderful fun, and amazing experiences that can happen. Well think again my fellow hairdressers think again.
As a hairdresser you must have:
Amazing dress sense.
The ability to achieve maximum hair styling results every time!
Now I know what you’re thinking trust me I do! What the hell does all that, bar the last part have to do with being an amazing artist.
I do not know. well… I do, but really don’t want to write it on paper, so here goes.
People view us as the forefront of style we are the pinnacle in hair, makeup and dress sense, i was made aware of this in my younger years of hairdressing, people didn’t trust me as they felt I looked too young to be able to style their hair. I had to dressed older use more makeup and have the ability to talk politics, husband problems, wife problems and more. As I got older this became a bit more apparent, when one Sunday I was working in the salon and I didn’t do my hair ( it was in a messy bun) and a lady came in peevish that she was here the day before and she wasn’t happy with the results of the work my staff had done to her hair, when I told her I could easily fix her hair she yelled and said “I am not going to let you touch my hair look at yours” I realized quick smart that no matter how talented I am people will judge my appearance first and my talents last.
Let’s think for a moment Jennifer Aniston’s hair she has the most desired hairstyle to date I still to this day have clients show me pictures of her hair. But who gave her that look hmmmm. The Hairdresser of course. Using ourselves as style platforms in conjunction with the knowledge that we carry we are able to pass this on to our customers call me crazy but deep down you know it’s true how many times has someone said to me ohhh I like your hair, where did you get that top? are your eyelashes real?
We have tried and tested most beauty and hair ideals let’s be honest unknowingly we passed the information on to our clients. So as much as we would like to come to work in gym pants, baggy top, no makeup and your hair unwashed and unruly we simply can’t that not what we represent as style icons.
Ciao for now.
